NEW DELHI, June 5: Former Chief Justice of India Rangnath Mishra, former Union Home Secretary, R D Pradhan, eminent lawyer Kapil Sibal and Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah figure in the Congress list of 11 Rajya Sabha nominations announced here tonight.While Mishra, who had also been chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has been fielded from Orissa, Pradhan and Heptullah would be party's nominees from Maharashtra and Sibal from Bihar.
Former AICC joint secretary Balkavi Bairagi, former Madhya Pradesh minister Jhumaklal Bhedia, and Mabel Rebello are the three party candidates from Madhya Pradesh.
Besides Mishra, party leader Ramachandra Kuntiya would be a nominee from Orissa.
From Rajasthan, the party has fielded Nawab of Loharu, Aimauddin Ahmed Khan and former AICC joint secretary, Santosh Bagrodia.
For the lone seat from Uttar Pradesh, Khan Gufran Zaidi has been given the nomination.
For the legislative council elections from Maharashtra, PCC president RanjitDeshmukh and state legislature party spokesman Vasant Chavan will be the party nominees.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai Heptulla and Pradhan field their papers. The names the names of both the leaders were proposed by Leader of the Opposition in State Legislative Assembly Madhukarrao Pichad, alongwith other Congressmena including Shankarrao Jagtap, Bhanudas Moorkute, L Kadir Deshmukh, Sahebrao Badarkar, Rambhau Mozhe, Marutrao Kowase, Raosaheb Patil, Kisan Jadhav and Sanjay Deotale.
Elsewhere, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Kanshi Ram, former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, planning commission deputy chairman Jaswant Singh and five DMK members are among those who filed nominations for the June 18 elections.
With a strength of 45 party legislators, Kanshi Ram is all set to make his maiden entry into the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. Party general secretary Mayawati indicated that talks were on with the Congress for cooperation during the election.
There are 12 vacancies in Uttar Pradesh. The Bharatiya JanataParty yesterday announced that it will contest five seats and support a Lok Tantrik Congress candidate for the sixth.
Devi Lal of the Haryana Lok Dal (Rashtriya) filed his papers today.In Rajasthan, while senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh filed his nomination today, former Union minister Kamal Murarka (Congress) had submitted his papers yesterday.
Former Indian High Commissioner to Britain L K Singhvi (BJP) and two Congress nominees - sitting party MLA from Durru Mian and industrialist Santosh Bagdoria - are expected to put in their papers tomorrow.
