P-5 rap on Kashmir makes Govt cautious
In the face of the threat to internationalise the Kashmir dispute issued last night in Geneva by the foreign ministers of the five nuclear states, India has proclaimed its readiness to offer concessions that included the "strictest control" on the export of nuclear material and technology. The statement of compromise came almost 24 hours after the Geneva communique, the delay pointing to the absolute confusion in the Government as it struggled to put together a coherent reaction to the admonitory tone adopted by the permanent-five.
BJP all set to woo back Trinamool Congress
The BJP has begun implementing its "Mission Mamata" in order to win back the sulking Trinamool Congress leader on time for voting on the Budget. The Trinamool Congress has suspended its support to the government and its seven MPs are boycotting the Lok Sabha. And the minority government could find itself in a fix over the passage of money bills unless Banerjee is appeased.
Sonia rejects Rao plea for RS ticket
Former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao who had formally applied for a Congress nomination to the Rajya Sabha from Orissa has been turned down by party chief Sonia Gandhi. No reason was apparently cited for denying him the nomination but sources said the rebuff indicated she had not yet forgiven him for ignoring 10 Janpath -- and those identified with it -- during the second half of his tenure as Prime Minister.

Come clean on mineral water, Kant tells Govt
Rajya Sabha chairman Krishan Kant has directed the government to come to the House prepared with the relevant facts on bottled mineral water being sold in the country. The chairman gave the direction after a number of members pointed out that tap water or polluted water was being sold as mineral water. The chairman said water was a basic necessity and the government "should come to the House prepared" when the question was raised next.
