Corretja crushes French resistance
Spain's Alex Corretja joined compatriot Carlos Moya in the French Open tennis final with a crushing straight-sets victory over home favourite Cedric Pioline on Friday. Fourteenth seed Corretja blitzed the unseeded Frenchman 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours 21 minutes on a scorching Roland Garros Court Central.
Selectors stick to winning combination
The National cricket selection committee has retained its faith in the triumphant outfit of the Coca Cola Cup triangular series that concluded last month end while choosing the team for the forthcoming (June 19-July 8) Independence Cup triangular series in Sri Lanka. The sole change from the winning squad has been that of Orissa all-rounder Sanjay Raul making way for his state-mate Debashish Mohanty.
England consolidate position
England were all out for 462 at the end of the second day's play. Earlier they were 417-7, when rain stopped play 50 minutes, and 11 overs, before the scheduled close on the second day of the first cricket Test against South Africa at Edgbaston on Friday. South Africa were having the better of the day by taking five wickets for 133 but it was not enough to stop England moving towards an impregnable position scoring 382 for six at tea.
