Two top US Senators to visit India
Two influential United States Senators with special South Asia interest will be visiting India shortly amid indications that Washington will ease up on sanctions against both New Delhi and Islamabad. The Senators want to look and hear first hand the security concerns of India and Pakistan and see what US lawmakers can do to ease the tensions in the region.

Pakistan missiles benefitted from US tech transfer to China
Pakistan's missile programme indirectly benefitted from the invaluable aid the United States gave to China to improve its communication rockets and medium and inter-continental range missiles, the New York Times said yesterday. The report, coming just weeks before Bill Clinton becomes the first US President to visit China after the Tiananmen Square massacre, might turn out to be a major embarrassment for him.

Pak opposition grills Sharif
The Nawaz Sharif Government has been severely rapped by the opposition for the imposition of emergency in Pakistan in the wake of nuclear tests by India and Pakistan. The main opposition, Pakistan People's Party (PPP), expressed its serious reservations over the intentions of the government by imposing emergency while raising the bogey of external aggression during a joint session of the parliament to approve the proclamation of emergency.
