Congress snatches lead; BJP follows meekly
Despite all the euphoria about India going nuclear under the BJP's leadership, the party has not lived up to its expectations in the Assembly by-elections held in 51 seats spread across the country. With 49 results declared so far, the Congress have won 16 while the BJP nine.

Sukh Ram charge-sheeted for abuse of official status
Former Union communications minister Sukh Ram has been summoned to court on August 4 by Special CBI Judge Ajit Bharihoke, after the Central Bureau of Investigation filed the third charge-sheet against him. The investigating agency filed the latest charge-sheet against Sukh Ram for allegedly abusing his position as a public servant to award a Rs 33-crore contract to the Rohtak-based Haryana Telecom Limited (HTL).

Mamata relents, will back Vajpayee Govt
Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, in a predictable change of stance, lifted its "suspension" of support to the Vajpayee Government and also the Parliament boycott. The party's seven MPs will attend the Lok Sabha session from Monday and support the government when the Railway Budget is put to vote on Tuesday.
