Gidwani's fate in Council polls hangs fire

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, June 9: The candidature of Kanhaiyalal Gidwani for the June 18 biennial elections to the Legislative Council hangs in balance following announcement of two more official nominees of the Shiv Sena by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi.

While Gidwani filed his nomination as the official Sena candidate on June 5, Joshi today said Transport Minister Diwakar Raote and Forest Development Corporation Chief Vijay Vadettiwar were the official nominees.

Gidwani said he has received no instructions from Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray to withdraw his papers and as such he continues to be the party's official candidate.
