Temperature dips

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, June 9: The cyclone sweeping through Western India has brought down the mercury drastically. The maximum temperature today came down to 39.8 degree Celsius.

This is the first time this month that the maximum temperature is in keeping with the averages for the month of June. The minimum temperature however went up by .2 degrees to 30.4, two degrees above normal.

Even as the cyclone, blowing in a North-Northwesterly direction, leaves a trail of devastation in Rajasthan and Gujarat, Delhi is not likely to be adversely affected. With the cyclone already showing signs of weakening, it seems unlikely that the city will be hit by rain in the next 48 hours.

Delhiites can expect a couple of cool days, with humidity staying under control as well. At 5.30 p.m. the humidity recorded by the Met Department was 31 per cent. The average humidity between June 10-14 at 5.30 p.m. is 29 per cent and at present Delhi seems to be heading that way.

After the hot summer of '98, the city is finally set to get a brief reprieve from the heat.
