Easy day for seeded players

NEW DELHI, June 9: Top seed Ashutosh Singh sailed past Rithindra Kakti 6-2, 6-0 in the second round of the boys under-18 category of the Punjabi Bagh Club Delhi State Summer Circuit today.

The other seeded players too breezed into pre-quarter-finals with easy wins over their rivals. Second seed Gurmehar Singh trounced Nitesh Vatwani 6-0, 6-0 while third seed Lalit Mohan Singh got past Gaurang Mehta 6-1, 6-1.

Vishika Chhetri trounced Shilpi Chauhan 8-1 while Monika Goel defeated Nidhi Thakur 8-2 to enter the girls under-18 quarter-finals.

In the other pre-quarter-final matches in this category, Parul Goswami defeated Harsimran Kaur 8-2 and Poornima Narayanan beat Tara Iyyer 8-0, Mallika Ahluwalia humbled Saloni Sabharwal 8-3, Neha Phalpher beat Minakshi Hooda 8-0 and Itishree Badu beat Anjani Kant 8-0.
