DMK planning curbs on my party: Jaya

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, June 10: AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha has charged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi with planning to ``instigate'' the police force to clamp down on her partymen during their proposed statewide agitation on June 15 to protest the state government's ``failure to solve the problems of farmers''.

In a seven-page open letter to party cadres on Wednesday, the AIADMK leader requested them not to become ``victims'' of the ``atrocities of the power-drunk rulers''' and to ensure the success of the rallies and demonstrations ``to wipe away the tears of the farmers''.

Karunanidhi had attempted to link the announcement of the agitation with the recent Special Court order attaching her properties, Jayalalitha said, claiming however that the demonstration had been decided upon ``much earlier'' during her party's executive committee meeting on April 15.

The rallies would be organised in a ``democratic manner'' in all district headquarters and a memorandum would be handed over to the respectivedistrict collectors condemning the DMK regime, she declared. The Chief Minister, she said, ``has straightaway started accusing us of scheming to unleash violence during our democratic agitation.''

He had told mediapersons his government had Intelligence information that `Jayalalitha's mob' was trying to create a law and order problem in the state, she charged.

The people had trusted the AIADMK and voted for it in the Lok Sabha elections because of its promise to get the DMK Government dismissed, she claimed, adding her party MPs were pressing for the dismissal ``to save the people of Tamil Nadu.'' Alleging that Karunanidhi had used police force against the AIADMK ``right from its inception'', she recalled various instances when, she claimed, violence was unleashed on AIADMK partymen.
