CET for MBBS, BDS may be held on July 12

MUMBAI, June 10: Application forms for the Common Entrance Test (CET) to MBBS and BDS courses at government, municipal, corporation and non-aided private medical, dental colleges in Maharashtra will be distributed today.

Information about CET and rules for admission will be available at all 11 government colleges and 31 offices of the district collectors in districts which do not have a medical college. In Mumbai, the forms will be available at 10 counters in the JJ Hospital premises.

The forms can be collected between 10 am and 5 pm (on working days) upto June 19. Forms must be submitted by 5 pm on June 20. The application should be submitted in person at the centre specified in the rules. No application form will be accepted if sent by post or courier services.

The forms are available for Rs 500 each. Aspirants belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribes or nomadic tribes (Number 1, 2 and 3), may get the form for Rs 250 only. Students can avail of this concession after producing a certificate fromhis school/college specifying his caste and category. In such a case, the name of the applicant will be written on the application form. This form is not transferable.

These rules are applicable to all government, private and municipal medical colleges in the state except the Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune, Armed Forces Medical College (Pune) and Kasturba Gandhi Medical College at Sevagram (Wardha).

The tentative date for holding the CET is July 12. The day-long examination will have two sessions of two and a half hours each. At the beginning of the first session, students will be handed question papers for physics and chemistry. Similarly, they will be given both biology and English papers at the beginning of the second session.

All students who have passed the HSC examination are eligible to appear for the CET. The test will comprise multiple choice, objective type of questions based strictly on the syllabus of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination. The English paper will not be based on anytext. Questions will test grammar and comprehension prescribed in the HSC syllabus.

For admissions to medical colleges, the Physics Chemistry Biology (PCB) average scored by the student in the CET will be considered. Only those students whose PCB plus English score (all four subjects counted together) is above 50 per cent in the CET will be allowed to apply to medical colleges. For backward class students, the PCBE cut off point is 40 per cent. Hall tickets for the examination will be mailed to each student at the residence address provided by him before June 9. A total of 60,000 application forms printed at Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur have already been provided to the 42 distribution centres.
