Irate Thane residents to "chargesheet" commissioner
Express News Service
MUMBAI, June 10: Angry residents of Thane city have decided to `chargesheet' Thane's municipal commissioner T Chandrashekar to protest the manner in which the civic administration treats ordinary people and its ``indifference'' to the death of four-year-old Renuka Zogde, who fell into a manhole on May 20.Sanjay Mango, member of the national executive committee of the Samajwadi Jana Parishad (SJP) and Jagdish Khairala, the SJP's Thane unit president, announced this at a press meet today. Claiming to have the backing of hundreds, they said citizens of Thane met on Sunday and decided to `chargesheet' the commissioner for three recent mishaps: the injury to a civic employee on whose head an electric pole fell, the electrocution of a horse due to a live cable on the road, and the death of Renuka. They said Thane's residents would meet the municipal commissioner in his office on June 12 and frame charges against him. ``If nothing works, we will file a suit against the commissioner,'' Mango and Khairalapointed out.
