Bangla Govt revokes Chetia's detention order
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
DHAKA, JUNE 10: The Bangladesh Government has revoked the order of detention of ULFA leader Anup Chetia and his associates under the Special Powers Act, 1974. This was communicated to the high court today by the additional attorney general Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan when the case relating to the detention of Chetia and his companions came up for hearing. But, the ULFA general secretary and his associates, now lodged in the high security Dhaka central jail would not be freed from the custody if they are not granted bail in three criminal cases earlier filed against them by Bangladesh authorities for which trial is progressing in the court of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate.The additional attorney general handed over the decision of the government in writing today to a division bench of the high court. It was communicated to the court that the government under Section 13 of the Special Power Act revoked the detention order of Chetia and his two other followers on June 3. Earlier, on March 8 thisyear, Saiful Islam Dilar had filed a habeas corpus petition on behalf of the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission, a Dhaka-based human rights group.
