Cyclone alert sounded in Hisar

CHANDIGARH, June 10: In view of the possibility of entry of the cyclonic storm that caused havoc in Gujarat and Rajasthan into Haryana, the government has issued a red alert in Hisar district. It has directed officials of all the government departments in the state to be prepared to deal effectively with any emergency situation

According to an official spokesman, the alert was issued at an emergency meeting of the government departments in Hisar last night. The office of Deputy Commissioner Vivek Joshi has been made the control room to coordinate rescue and relief operations. The DC instructed heads of all the government departments in the district not to grant leave to any of their subordinates till further orders. ``Instead, they should be asked to remain within their areas to supply promptly any information regarding the cyclone for immediate action,'' he added.

The district collector has appealed to people to contact the nearest block development or panchayat offices, police station or sub-divisional officer (civil) or district revenue officer or additional commissioner or commissioner in case of any problem. The authorities has take their cattle to covered areas to protect them from heavy rain. The meteorological office has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Hisar and adjoining areas in the next 36 hours.

The government has given the following telephone numbers to enable people to contact the district authorities: 32045, 33243, 32692, 31137, 32304 and 32388. Also, the police authorities can be contacted at 37150 or 100.
