CHANDIGARH, June 10: A three-member group from Mumbai is conducting its fifth successive annual month-long theatre workshop at Prachin Kala Kendra, Sector 35.Happy, Rajesh and Manisha are the conducting the workshop which started on June 1. They are being assisted by Jaspal, a student of theatre department of Panjab University. 92 school students are enjoying themselves every day except for Sunday from 9:30 a.m. on wards. The coordinators say the workshop aims at providing stage to their pupil at the end of the workshop. Although the students have full liberty to do whatever they like but they do have to follow some regulations, like spending 45 minutes on light physical exercises.
Non-stop nonsense - a verbal exercise aimed at breaking the inhibition of shy kids is held every day. The students are are getting the feel of: stage craft, mask making, makeup and the like.
"We have joined this workshop to gain confidence," say Tarun - a class VII student, Jagjot and Arunangshu Pal.
Chirjot, Harpreet (a class X student) and a student of U.KG, Kashish, joined to learn something creative. Children like Harleen and Elisha have joined the workshop to enjoy themselves. Gaurav, a class IX student, wants to be an actor and this is his fifth theatre workshop in a row.Games and exercises enhance interaction amongst kids, says Manisha. Students who have joined this workshop on their own are more creative than those who came to fulfil their parent's wishes, the coordinators say.
