NEW DELHI, June 10: The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the University of Delhi, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and others on a petition alleging that reservation rules for SC/ST candidates as lecturers at Maharaja Agrasena college had been violated.Issuing notices to the Delhi Government and Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) as well, Justices Arun Kumar and Mukul Mudgal asked the respondents to file their reply by August 3. The petition filed by Mathematics lecturer, St Stephen's College, Nandita Narain and two other lecturers through counsel Dr Aurobindo Ghose contended that DU's Academic Council and Executive Council had adopted detailed recommendations of the UGC, providing for reservations for SC/ST candidates for the posts of lecturers in all its colleges.
However, Maharaja Agrasena College, established by the Delhi Government and affiliated to the DU, in December last year advertised for 32 posts of lecturers without mentioning that 12 out of them were reserved for the SC/ST candidates. The petitioners sought a direction from the court declaring the said advertisement as illegal and the subsequent interviews as void.
The petitioners asked the court to direct the respondents to re-advertise the said post of lecturers in accordance with the rules.
