Neelam came up with a stunning performance in the discus event, her heave of 57.94 metres surpassing her performance in the recent meet at Nagercoil, besides bettering her own national record which stood at 56.66 metres.

Jyothirmoy Sikdar won a fine double 400m and 800m. Sikdar who had missed quite a few meets last year due to injuries, got the better of ace athlete P T Usha in the 400 metres. Usha, however, was not to be denied as she went on to bag the 200 metres sprint.

Satbir Singh hurled the javelin to 76.64 metres to take the first place. Shakti Singh won the shot put gold .
