She fights alone, for husband's sake
Somewhere in the grounded fleet of Westland helicopters which the Government bought for over Rs 350 crore and now wants to sell as scrap, lies, in tatters, the reputation of one of the country's finest fighter pilots. That's what his widow thinks as she tries to salvage his reputation and convince herself -- and the rest of the world that her husband, Air Commodore (rtd) HS Manget, who was killed while flying a Westland chopper in Jammu in July 1988, was not to blame.

House owners oppose MHADA amendment
A lurking fear of losing their property for a lark under the new amendment to the MHADA Act 1976, prompted senior counsel Mulchand Shah to advise all pre-1940 property owners to redevelop their property and avail the 50% extra FSI. The amendment stipulates that if 70% of tenants pay 100 months' rent to the landlord, they can become owners after reconstruction.

Bad vibes -- Verbal missiles whizz over J&K
Five months after India proposed talks with Pakistan, Islamabad has informed New Delhi that it is willing to restart the dialogue by addressing "on a priority basis the main issues" between the two countries, that is, peace and security, including confidence-building measures -- and Kashmir. However, New Delhi seems to be treating the offer, made two days ago by the Foreign Office in Islamabad, with contempt.
