RAWATBHATA, JUNE 14: The second unit of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS-2), which was revived indegeneously and attained criticality on May 27, was today dedicated to the nation.R Chidambaram, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), dedicated it and unveiled a plaque at the power station here.
In a message written on the plaque Chidambaram said, ``the magical power of atom has suddenly raised nation to a select place of pride and prestige. RAPS-2 revival further adds a feather in the cap.''
The reactor core of the unit was rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 80 crore (about $ 22 million) as against Candad's demand of $ 350 million for the same job.
Y S R Prasad, CMD of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) was also present on the occasion.
