Crack teams leave for Bihar

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
JUNE 14: Crack teams have left for Bihar in search of the murderers of Gamdevi housewife, Uma Seth, who was found dead in her 9th-floor flat in Usha Kiran Apartments yesterday. Police are looking for two young Bihari boys who were employed on trial basis by the Seths only hours before the murder took place.

Additional Commissioner of Police (south region) K Subramaniam said: ``We are in the process of making certain verifications. The victim's husband has given us some addresses and we have despatched our teams to trace the absconding servants.'' The suspected killers have been identified as Anil Choudhary and Riyat Yadav, both in the age group of 20-22 years, on the basis of information gathered from some Bihari servants who were rounded up from the neighbourhood for questioning yesterday.

Uma Seth's husband, industrialist Shiv Prakash Seth, was home when Anil and Riyat came knocking early morning. While the husband wanted them to first get their identities registered at the local police station, UmaSeth was keen to check if they could cook and asked them to start work immediately. Soon after the two men entered the kitchen and Uma went into her bedroom to change, Shiv Prakash Seth left for his Nariman Point office. It was 11 am.Police believe that the murder took place between 11 am and 12 noon, when Shiv Prakash Seth's brother, Rameshbhai, came visiting and found the door locked from inside. When nobody responded to the doorbell, he checked with the building security if anybody was home. Once it was confirmed that his sister-in-law had not left the flat, he called his brother at his office.A worried Seth made several calls to his house, but there was no response. He then rushed home and opened the door with his keys only to find his wife's body lying a pool of blood. The two servants he had employed only in the morning were gone.

Evidence suggests that Uma was gagged before being stabbed once on the right side of her abdomen. She was also hit on the head from behind.
