MPs' cars to be sold for buying food in Indonesia
AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
JAKARTA, June 14: An Indonesian province will hold a sale of `national' cars used by its MPs and contribute the proceeds to buying food and other essentials, the official Antara news agency said.In a report carried late on Saturday, Antara quoted East Kalimantan provincial official Harsono as saying the MPs could well do without the so-called national Timor cars. The controversial Timors are produced by PT Timor Putra Nasional, a company owned by ousted President Suharto's son Hutomo `Tommy' Mandala Putra, and newspapers have alleged that provincial Governments were pressured into buying batches of them. Money from the sale would be spent on basic essentials such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, kerosene, salt and flour. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
