Four unidentified men barged into the office of a courier agency at Kalbadevi and decamped with cash and valuables worth over Rs six lakh on Sunday morning. At around 8 am, Sanjay Jain, a partner in the Maruti Express Services, was in office along with seven other employees when four men armed with revolvers and choppers forcibly entered the office. The quartet robbed Rs 5,86,000 in cash, jewellery worth Rs 10,000 and a mobile phone from the office and decamped with the booty.

Congress bandh called off

The bandh called by the New Mumbai district Congress committee to protest the closure of quarries in Navi Mumbai on environmental grounds has been suspended following an assurance given by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi today. Congress leader D R Patil, who called on Joshi and had discussed the matter at the inauguration of the international park at Vashi, said the Chief Minister assured him that the quarries would be allowed to function at their present site untilalternative arrangements are made to shift them to a new area.

Conference on adoption

Madhavi Hegde-Karandikar, trustee and honorary secretary of Bal Asha Trust, will present the PACMIS (Parent and Child Computerised Management Information System) Module in the international adoption conference organised by International Families Incorporated in Washington from June 19 to 21. The module profiles 130 children and 70 parents-in-waiting for adoption. This is the first time that such software designed in India will be demonstrated in an international conference.
