NEW DELHI, June 14: The Kasmhere Gate police claim to have solved the murder of Mohammed Hashim -- whose highly decomposed body with strangulation marks was found in a jhuggi in the Kucha Mohtar Khan area on June 2 -- following the arrest of his former roommate Shyam Chand.Hashim used to stay with Shyam Chand after he came to the Capital from Hughli in West Bengal in search of a job.
Investigations revealed that the two had frequent altercations in the past two months over a woman who also stayed in the same jhuggi during this period.
The police zeroed in on Shyam Chand after other residents in the area said that Hashim was last seen with him on May 31. The eyewitnesses also said that they saw Shyam Chand locking up the jhuggi and leaving alone later in the same evening.
Shyam Chand was nabbed from the Gokhale Market area on Saturday. He reportedly confessed to killing Hashim because he had teased the woman he loved.
Though Shyam Sunder continued to feign ignorance about the incident in front of Hashim, he was waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. On May 31, he lured Hashim into drinking alcohol. Once the latter became inebriated, Shyam Sunder strangled him.
