According to highly placed Vadodara Municipal Corporation sources, this was decided at a meeting held between Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel and officers of the defence department here on Saturday.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has been corresponding for the last couple of years to acquire the land and has written letters in the context to the Baroda Dairy and the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans, among others.

Sources said officers also discussed how the encroachment, which had come up on the land to be acquired in Lalbaug and Manjalpur areas, could be removed.

Sources said the defence officers would shortly send a formal proposal to the Defence Ministry in New Delhi asking for the permission.
