Bihar grim, says Governor
Claiming that the law and order situation in the State was "extremely grim," Bihar Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari yesterday said he would send a special report to the Union home minister on Tuesday. He declined to say whether he would recommend President's rule following the killing of two MLAs in the State. The Bihar unit of the CPI(M), too, had demanded President's Rule but yesterday, apparently realising that the BJP-Samata combine had gained a tactical advantage in the oust-RJD campaign, the central leadership of the Left parties moved swiftly to overrule their state units.

Sonia restores Feroze's place in family
For almost 40 years, the man who gave the Congress' first family its famous Gandhi surname lay forgotten in a decrepit Allahabad cemetery. Not anymore. Let the rumour mills spin, Govt won't fall, says nonchalant Joshi
The rumour mill never stop spinning and elections invariably push it into top gear, says Chief Minister Manohar Joshi. Nettled by the 44 Independent legislators propping up his minority government since it took over in March 1995 and beset by allegations of their wavering support, Joshi comments that he is not in the least bit perturbed, even on the eve of the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council.
