Top Naxal surrenders

HYDERABAD: A top Naxalite of CPI-ML (Janashakthi group) surrendered before the police here on Thursday. Forty-three-year-old Muralidhar Raju alias Santosh, who surrendered before the Director General of Police H J Dora, had joined the extremist movement as a student in 1974, according to an official release. Raju chose to surrender because of his disillusionment with the direction of the Marxist-Leninist movement and also his ill-health, the release stated.

Tremors in Kabul

KABUL: Two strong tremors were felt in the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday, causing panic among residents, but there was no immediate report of damage. Some residents rushed out of their homes as the ground began to shake.
