South Africa earn first point Benedict McCarthy scored South Africa's first World Cup goal today to grab a 1-1 draw against Denmark in an incident-packed World Cup match that saw three players sent off, equalling the record in a finals. Italy beat 10-man Cameroon 3-0 in Group B last night to boost their chances of making the second round of the World Cup. Luigi di Biagio put the Italians ahead in the first half before Christian Vieri added two in the second half.The Africans were reduced by a player when Kalla Nkongo was sent to the dressing room with an instant red card for a two-footed lunge on Di Biagio late in the first half. Meanwhile, Colombian striker Faustino Asprilla publicly apologised today, 24 hours after being kicked out of the Cup, for criticising coach.
