SURAT, June 18: The Pandesara police are investigating a case where a 30-year housewife -- residing in Gitanagar -- committed suicide by setting herself on fire on Tuesday, after her husband and in-laws beat her up over a trivial matter.The Pandesara police took the deceased's husband, sister-in-law, and father-in-law into custody on Wednesday. They were produced before a magistrate on Wednesday evening, where they admitted to having tortured the deceased in the past few months, PSI S R Borase of the police station told Express Newsline. All three were later send to the Surat sub-jail, he added.
According to details, the deceased's father had in a complaint lodged with the police stated that the deceased's family took strong objection to her brother staying with them. They beat her up and unable to bear the humiliation she ended her life.
She was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on admission. The police have registered a case according to sections 498 (a), 306 and 114 of the IPC.
