Vajpayee announces Rs 100 cr package for Himachal Pradesh
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, on his first visit to Himachal Pradesh after the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre, on Thursday announced a Rs 100-crore package for development projects in the state. Vajpayee assured that the Centre would make every effort to eradicate the problems of this far-flung hill state and said the government had chalked out a plan for the welfare and upliftment of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in the country which would benefit these sections in Himachal Pradesh as well.

Government suspends CET till July 30
Succumbing to the mounting pressure and fervent appeals by angry parents of HSC students, union health minister Dr Daulatrao Aher announced suspension of the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses till July 30, 1998. The CET was scheduled to be held on July 12, 1998.

Srikrishna panel report to be tabled on July 20
State Advocate General C J Sawant has assured the Bombay High Court that the B N Srikrishna Commission report on the Mumbai riots will be placed on both the floors of the state legislature on July 20, the first day of the monsoon session. The Advocate General made the statement before the division bench of Justice B P Saraf and Justice A Y Sakhare.
