Man kills wife over meal

The Dongri police arrested a man on Sunday afternoon who strangled his wife to death for not giving him his lunch on Friday.

The body of 22-year-old Momina Sheikh was found under mysterious circumstance at her residence near Thakkar Petrol Pump on P D'Mello Road at around 3.30 pm. There was a suicide note near the place where the deceased was, said the police.

It first appeared that Momina had committed suicide.

However, during investigations, neighbours told the police that the couple had a quarrel before the body was found.

Interrogation of Momina's husband Raju Kazi, revealed that he had strangled his wife in a fit of anger over food . To make it look like suicide, Kazi hanged his wife from the roof and scribbled a suicide note. He has been remanded to custody till July 4.

Woman sets kids, self on fire

A 32-year-old housewife set her two daughters on fire before burning herself at Govandi on Sunday evening. However, one of the daughters, four months old,survived.

When Mohammed Bashir went to the toilet at around 5.15 pm, Fatima Mohammed Bashir locked the door of her room, at Gajanan Colony, Abdul Hamid Road, Govandi (west), from inside and burnt her four-year-old daughter Razia and four-month-old Azma before setting herself on fire. When neighbours saw smoke emanating from the room, they broke open the door. However, they only managed to save Azma. Fatima and Razia were rushed to the nearby Shabdi Hospital, where they succumbed to their burns. According to the police, Fatima was mentally deranged and was undergoing treatment at Sion hospital.

On Saturday, she had reportedly tried to throw her daughters into a `nullah', but her neighbours managed to prevent her.

Youth stabbed at Bhandup

A 23-year-old youth was stabbed to death by a goon at Bhandup (west) on Saturday afternoon.

Nitin Sahaji Golthonde, residing near Usha Nagar, was stabbed by Balkrishna Bhamre, a goon. The youth succumbed to his injuries at a nearby municipal hospital a fewhours later. Investigations revealed that the murder was a fallout of old enmity. Golthonde had a fight with Bhamre's uncle a few weeks ago.

Plywood dealer murdered

A 48-year-old plywood dealer was found murdered in his shop at Juhu on Saturday afternoon. The police suspect robbery to be the motive.

Lakhan Gala, owner of Gala Plywood Mart on Juhu Tara Road, was found dead in his shop at around 1 pm on Saturday, with his throat slit open. The murder came to light when Praveen was discovered by an employee, Chedda, who returned from lunch. Prima facie evidence suggested robbery as the motive.

The police found Rs 4,000 missing from the cash box.
