Group set up to improve government school results
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, June 21: A study group has been constituted under the Directorate of Education to suggest measures for improving board examination results in government schools.Headed by director of education Neeru Nanda, the group has been asked to submit its report within a month. Announcing this, Delhi education and health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that though there is a decline in the board results, adequate improvement has been witnessed in a number of schools. According to the minister, 57 government and government-aided schools registered 90 per cent success in the Class XII results this year. Last year only 38 schools had this achievement. Dr Vardhan added that there was no justification in comparing the performance of government schools in the Delhi area with other regions which come under the jurisdiction of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He said that most schools in other areas were either Kendriya Vidyalayas or public schools. The study group has also been asked to look at the feasibility of a centralised examination for Class V in MCD schools which has been discontinued.
