Imelda Marcos, son threatened by guerrillas

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
MANILA, June 22: Former Philippines first lady Imelda Marcos and her son face ``heavy penalties'' from communist guerrillas who have vowed to abduct and put them on trial, a rebel spokesman said on Monday.

New People's Army spokesman Gregorio Rosal confirmed reports that guerrilla units were under orders to ``arrest Mrs Marcos and Bongbong,'' referring to her son, Ferdinand Marcos Junior, by his nickname. The Maoist group plans to have the two heirs of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos ``account for their responsibility to the thousands of human rights victims during the fascist regime of the Marcos dictatorship,'' Rosal said. Captives subjected to ``people's tribunals'' by members of the 29-year-old rebellion are usually killed on the spot.
