Khatami wants OIC to discuss Jerusalem plan
AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
TEHRAN, June 23: Iranian President Mohammed Khatami has called for a special ministerial session of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, to discuss Israel's plan to extend boundaries of Jerusalem to boost its Jewish majority. In a message to OIC heads of state, the President of Iran who currently chairs the organisation, said the meeting would be to ``adopt appropriate positions in response to the decision of the Zionist regime on Jerusalem''. In his message, Khatami said the Israeli decision ``along with its policy of occupation and of flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions, is a clear sign of its contempt for the international community's latest requests''. On Sunday, the Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a plan to annex to Jerusalem several Jewish townships to the West of the city, boosting Jerusalem's population by another 30,000 Jews.
