Yugoslavia presume win, search for goals

Robert Kitson
NANTES, June 24: The United States will be playing for little more than pride in their closing World Cup match tomorrow but Yugoslavia will be intent on securing their route to the last 16.

The Yugoslavs are favourites to finish on top of Group F as Germany, equal on points, face an Iran side buoyed by their emotional 2-1 defeat of the Americans on Sunday.

The Yugoslavs are trying not to sound too confident but obviously expect to score a few goals against an American side already destined to head home after the first round.

``I honestly don't think that the Germans will score more goals against Iran than we will against the Americans. Unlike Iran, the US don't have a chance of qualifying,'' said mid-fielder Slavisa Jokanovic.Germany currently head the group because they have scored four goals compared with Yugoslavia's three. Both teams have conceded two.

Yugoslav striker Darko Kovacevic is out with a thigh strain but defender Zoran Mirkovic should be back after missing the 2-2 draw with Germany.Savo Milosevic or Perica Ognjenovic will play up front alongside Predrag Mijatovic and Mirkovic is expected to replace Slobodan Komljenovic.

Probable teams United States: 18-Kasey Keller; 6-David Regis, 5-Tom Dooley (captain), 3-Eddie Pope, 9-Joe-Max Moore, 2-Frankie Hejduk, 10-Tab Ramos, 21-Claudio Reyna, 13-Cobi Jones, 7-Roy Wegerle, 20-Brian McBride
Yugoslavia: 1-Ivica Kralj; 2-Zoran Mirkovic, 3-Goran Djorovic, 4-Slavisa Jokanovic, 11-Sinisa Mihajlovic, 16-Zeljko Petrovic, 20-Dejan Stankovic, 10-Dragan Stojkovic (captain), 7-Vladimir Jugovic, 9-Predrag Mijatovic, 17-Savo Milosevic.
