This is the first big entry of Gavaskar in adminstration of the game which may lead to his being picked as a selector and ultimately as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He heads BCCI technical committee.

10 teams for Rugby tens

Bombay Gymkhana will host the Famous Grouse Rugby tens tournament to be held on June 28 and 29. Incepted last year, the event has drawn 10 teams from all over the country. These have been divided into two pools. Pool A comprises Orissa FC, Calcutta Wild Cats, Greater Bombay Police, Delhi RFC and Bombay Lions. Pool B has Bengal Tigers, Maharashtra State Police, Bangalore RFC, Bombay Panthers and Bombay Ducks.

The event has grown in significance in light ofIndia's participation in the forthcoming Bangkok Asian Games where rugby makes its debut as a demonstration sport.

After the tens event, local teams will vie for the Bombay Cup to be played on July 4.

Wali case dismissed

A division bench of the Mumbai High Court comprising chief justice M B Shah and justice R M S Khandeparkar today dismissed the writ petition filed by city player Saket Wali for his non-inclusion in the trials held for the Indian team for the Junior World championship. The co-respondents Squash Rackets Federtation of India (SRFI) and Squash Rackets Association of Maharashtra (SRAM) had produced four guidelines under which the probables were invited for the camp here. The court observed that Saket did not fall under any guideline hence had no case, SRAM president Vaman Apte said here today.
