VADODARA, June 25: Belying the authorities' confidence that M S University would be on the Internet from the first week of May, no steps seem to have been taken on that front so far, with even the equipment yet to be purchased.Though the authorities had earlier claimed to have received the funds for the project, officials told Express Newsline that the outlay would not meet all the costs.
``The university has received only enough money to take the connection, but it cannot go ahead until it receives an assurance from the California-based alumni, who are funding the project'', said sources. Moreover, they added, ``To send the funds, the alumni have to form an association there.''
The university had earlier planned to connect all the faculties through the Internet, which would be based at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Thus all students would be able to access the net.
The university has appointed Rumi Mistry as officer on special duty to deal with the Internet project, which was undertaken as part of the golden jubilee celebrations.
Like all other projects of the university this project too is not free of criticism. A Syndicate member said, ``The university has to first equip itself with necessary things like fax machines before going in for the Internet.
