NEW DELHI, June 25: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government has arrested an assistant engineer of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000.Builder Manoj Kumar Gupta constructed a double-storeyed house at 43, Pocket 5, Sector C, Vasant Kunj. He received a notice from the DDA for demolition because of excess construction. Gupta contacted Ishwar Singh Panwar, an assistant engineer with the Building Department of the DDA, to sort out the matter. Panwar allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh to quash the notice. Of that amount, Rs 40,000 was to be paid as the first installment last evening at Gupta's office in Mandakini.
Gupta contacted the ACB, which laid a trap for Panwar and caught him red-handed while receiving the bribe.
According to the ACB, documents relating to investment in real estate and the share market were also recovered from his house, and the transactions and investments carried out by him were allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Panwar was produced in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate J.R. Aryan today and remanded to 14-days judicial custody.
