A hundred voices nag PM
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that it would celebrate the first 100 days of the government by holding public meetings all over the country for three days from today to educate the people on the achievements of the Vajpayee-led coalition. However, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is not an happy man. Worried over the flak his Government has received of late on various counts, he has instructed his Cabinet colleagues to exercise restraint while speaking on sensitive issues.

Sonia plays cool to Yadav overtures
Even as support swelled for the National Democratic Front (NDF) with former Communications Minister Buta Singh deciding to join hands with it yesterday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi played cool to the newly-formed outfit's frantic overtures. In fact Sonia has been busy overriding the opinion of many of her Congress Working Committee (CWC) colleagues that perhaps the time is ripe to replace the BJP-led coalition Government.

Govt fails to cut ice with investors
While the Finance Ministry's belated decision to participate in the two-day Euromoney investors' conference in the capital did lift sagging spirits a bit, there was little else to enthuse the investors. And despite the fact that Finance Secretary Montek Singh Ahluwalia's opening address was well-attended, what was especially striking was the absence of a large number of foreign investment bankers, usually a permanent feature at such conferences over the past few years.

Basu ready to support Congress-led Govt
The CPI(M) has finally joined in the `BJP Government hatao' chorus with veteran Politburo member and West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu hailing the new front formed by Laloo Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav as a "correct step" towards dislodging the "barbaric BJP-led coalition." "I wouldn't mind a Congress-led Government at the Centre and we'll not oppose such a move," Basu said in an interview to a local daily.
