Dissident power may split BJD on June 30
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is heading for a split with chances of reconciliation between the loyalists and dissidents appearing remote. In this context, the meeting of the BJD Legislature Party scheduled for June 30 has become crucial. Both the sides are now busy mobilising support among the MLAs with party president Naveen Patnaik yet to revoke the suspension order served on five dissident MLAs.

Oppn bid to oust Govt will come a cropper: BJP leader
The Opposition unity to oust the BJP-led coalition cannot be sustained politically for long, said J Krishnamurthy, one of the national vice-presidents of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Saying that "the success of Opposition plot to dislodge the Vajpayee Government would only lead to another mid-term poll and in such eventuality the people would punish the plotters," the BJP vice-president said: "The Opposition parties are not ready to face people's wrath."

No Cong, CPI tie-up for MP Assembly polls
Even as the Madhya Pradesh state executive of the Congress began its two-day deliberations on the strategy to win the Assembly elections later this year, Chief Minister Digvijay Singh inaugurated a seminar organised by the All-India Youth Federation, a CPI outfit. The PCC general secretary and spokesman Manak Agrawal, however, ruled out any electoral alliance between the Congress and the CPI.
