China, US sign $2 bn deals
President Bill Clinton's trip to China began to pay dividends for businesses, with major US corporations announcing contracts worth some $2 billion dollars. A deal for 27 Boeing aircrafts was also signed. Chinese and US officials held a high-profile signing ceremony in Beijing yesterday and witnessed the signing of seven contracts.

US senators discuss S Asia issue with Pak
The two US senators, Sam Brownback and Charles Robb, held discussions with Pakistani Foreign Minister, Gohar Ayub Khan in an attempt to "ease tension" in south Asia. They later will visit the Line of Control (LoC) where the firing from both the sides has intensified in recent days. Pakistan alleges that Indian troops indulged in "unprovoked firing" from across the LoC.

NZ to kickstart privatisation with public float
New Zealand's economy may be slowing down due to Asia's financial crisis, but the government is pressing on with the revival of its privatisation agenda. NZ plans to kickstart its economy by the public float of a majority stake in Auckland International Airport Ltd (AIA).
