The Pimpri-Chinchwad Jain Mahasangh and the Kasarwadi citizens forum has strongly opposed the plan to construct the abattoir at Kasarwadi.

In a memorandum submitted to the municipal commissioner on Thursday, the Mahasangh and the forum charged that while several projects such as a swimming pool, recreation centre, shopping complex, etc were denied to the citizens of Kasarwadi on the pretex of non-availability of land, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was `gifting' the citizens in the area with construction of abattoir and the sewerage treatment plant.

The memorandum said that the previous two sites for the abattoir at Nehrunagar in Pimpri and near Chikhli were shifted because of the severe opposition of the local residents. The residents in Kasarwadi would also oppose the construction of an abattoir in Kasarwadi, the memorandum said.
