Appeal to resolve DOT-TRAI tussle

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, July 2: Welcoming Minister of Telecommunications Sushma Swaraj's announcement that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) would charge local rates for accessing Internet from cities which do not have access nodes, Senior Vice-President of the Federation of Gujarat Industries Amit Goradia has urged the minister to resolve the dispute between the DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

In a letter to Swaraj, Goradia has requested that the dispute between both the Government of India organisations be resolved so as to allow private Internet service providers to enter operations in cities like Vadodara.

``It is also necessary that telephone lines, which are used for accessing Internet, be made reliable so that they do not break down often as has been the recent experience of most Net surfers from cities which do not have direct access nodes,'' Goradia added.
