Vadodara district receives moderate rains

VADODARA, July 2: Moderate showers were recorded in several parts of the district on Thursday. Though the city received only 1.7 mm rainfall during the day, Sankheda recorded 10 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am. Gusty winds blew at a speed of about 20 kmph in most of parts of the district for the second consecutive day.

While power supply continued to be disrupted in some parts of the walled city on Thursday too, the VMC, which was conducting a demolition drive in various parts of the city, had to work overtime to clear the accumulated debris, which had led to waterlogging in some congested areas.

Parts of low-lying areas like Raopura, the railway station and bus stand, Panigate, Dandia Baazar, Pratap Nagar and Fatehpura were also under water for hours together.

Meanwhile, according to weather officials, heavy rainfall is likely in all the parts of Gujarat in the next 48 hours. According to their records, Jetpurpavi received 2 mm (total 88 mm) of rains, Dabhoi, 5 mm (140 mm), Vadodara rural 8 mm (204 mm), Waghodia 1 mm (76 mm), Sinnor 1 mm (233 mm), Sankheda, 10 mm (70 mm). Karjan taluka, Naswadi, Padra, Savli and Kwant, which have had 239 mm, 69 mm, 58 mm, 118 mm and 161 mm rains respectively so far, did not receive rains on Thursday.

According to the District Flood Control Room, there was no report of any untoward incident from any parts of the district.
