India hires Solarz, Dole firms for lobbying
Two heavyweight Washington lobbying firms that count former Presidential candidate Bob Dole and former Congressman Steven Solarz in their rolls have been retained by the Indian Government to meet the new challenges arising from the post-nuclear test scenario. The firm Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand has been appointed as consultants. The government has also simultaneously retained APCO Associates Inc, as consultants.

SOFA so good for Bangla security
If things go according to plan, Bangladesh is going to be the first South Asian country to sign the Security of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the US. But the expected pact has caused ripples in political circles and the media in the country, with some reports suggesting that the Sheikh Hasina government is under pressure to sign it before President Bill Clinton's planned visit in November.

US to impose sanctions on Swiss banks
US state and municipal finance officers have announced plans to impose sanctions on Swiss banks that may be harboring dormant bank accounts of Holocaust victims. An executive committee of the finance officers' group recommended on Wednesday that cities and states take such action, dismissing arguments made by Swiss bank lawyers that sanctions were unconstitutional because state and local governments cannot formulate foreign policy.
