NEW DELHI, July 3: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government have arrested a clerk working with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for accepting a bribe. The arrest was made after a complaint was registered by Bhagat Singh, a resident of Mohammad village. On July 1, Singh lodged a complaint saying that the clerk, Satya Narayan Vashist, had prevented him from constructing a house in his village by saying that the land belonged to DDA. When he produced the latest documents from the Revenue Department indicating that the land was in his name, Vashist reportedly demanded Rs 1.5 lakh for not taking action in the matter.
After negotiations, the clerk allegedly agreed to accept the bribe in 10 installments of Rs 15,000 each.
The first installment was to be paid yesterday at the Vikas Sadan. Following the complaint, an ACB team laid a trap for Vashist. As a precaution, the clerk took Singh from Vikas Sadan to Bhikaji Cama Place in a TSR and took a round of the office complex to put the police off his trail. The team, however, managed to arrest Vashist while he was accepting the bribe.
