Give up part of income, Jamir urges officials

KOHIMA, July 5: Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir has suggested that senior government officials contribute a portion of their income, as part of internal mobilisation of resources in the face of the financial crisis plaguing the state.

``Your counterparts in the rest of the country have been paying a large chunk of their salary to the Central exchequer, whereas under special Constitutional provision, you have been exempted from paying personal Income Tax,'' the chief minister said at a high-level meeting chaired by him yesterday.

Financial commissioner Lalthara suggested a 20 per cent cut in non-Plan expenditure in all departments, mobilising of internal resources, lifting of prohibition and opting for a long-term loan of Rs 200 crore to tide over the present crisis.
