An official of the Tripura government told newsmen here today that Union Home Minister L K Advani in a letter to former Tripura home minister, now CPI (M) LS member Samar Chowdhury, rejected the ruling Left Front government's demand to impose the innerline permit system in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council areas. The CPI (M) criticised the Centre's stand on the issue and urged further to reconsider the demand to protect the tribals and check the infiltration. CPI (M)'s frontal tribal wing - Upajati Ganamukti Parishad leaders said that Advani's statement on the innerline issue was ``unfortunate''.
