Dadar flower market to be shifted today
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, July 8: Nearly 522 stalls of the Krantisingh Nana Patil Market, popularly known as the Dadar flower market, will be shifted tomorrow to a new site near Kamgar Maidan on the Senapati Bapat Road. The site is part of the Dadar pumping station plot, and new sheds have been built there to accommodate the flower stalls on a permanent basis. The shifting of the market is the BMC's first step towards creating a `hawkers' plaza' in Dadar. A BMC spokesperson said that though protests were lodged by some flower sellers initially, a total of 417 flower sellers have now indicated their willingness to move to the new site. The new market is expected to offer better facilities to the vendors. Each stall will measure 30 square feet in size, as against the current size of 20 square feet. A three-feet-high platform for the stalls will provide protection from rains, and the shops will be allotted electricity connections. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
