Businessmen looted at Dockyard Rd

Four unidentified men looted a businessman at Dockyard Road this afternoon and escaped with a booty of Rs 3.3 lakh, police said.

The owner of Irani Food and Investment Pvt Ltd, along with one of the employees, left his office at D'Lima street on Dockyard Road at around 1.20 pm to deposit money in the nearby Indian Bank, when the Tata Sumo in which the two were travelling was intercepted by a white Maruti 800.

Four persons descended from the Maruti and smashed the Sumo's windscreen with choppers. While three of the attackers wielded choppers, one of them whipped out a revolver and threatened the vehicle's occupants, police said.

One of the attackers grabbed the briefcase and cotton bag containing cash and escaped from the scene of crime. Police have registered a case of armed dacoity.

Robbery attempt foiled at Ghatkopar

Police arrested a gang of four armed dacoits out to rob a jeweller at Ghatkopar on Tuesday night. After receiving a tip-off that agang was planning to loot a jewellery shop near the Canteen Stores Department quarters on Golibar Road, Ghatkopar (west), police laid a trap at the spot. Two hours laters, seven unidentified men were seen moving suspiciously near the shop.

The special police squad which lay in wait nabbed the dacoits just as they were about to enter the shop. Five persons were arrested, but three managed to escape.The arrested have been identified as Babu Mohammed Khan alias Feroz, Mohammed Shaffiq alias Sahid Mumnna, Asgar Ali alias Babu Mohammed, Isak Khan and Mahesh Kumar alias Pappu.
