PUNE, July 9: Incessant rain in Pune and its outskirts day night has led to a whooping number of power failure incidents. The downpour, which started late on Tuesday night, continued throughout Wednesday. The complaint centres of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) in various parts of the city were flooded with complaint calls by enraged residents.Though the MSEB staff reportedly undertook repairs on war-footing, power supply could not be restored for several hours in various areas. Inquiries with 10 complaint centres from different parts of the city revealed that they had received about 500 complaints since Tuesday.
While claiming that there was no major breakdown except for an incident in which an overhead cable was snapped in Kasba Peth, the MSEB officials pointed out that in most of the other cases power failures were of individual nature.
The worst hit areas were Hadapsar, Kondhwa and Wanowrie as the MSEB complaint centre at Hadapsar received 69 complaints on Tuesday and 40 onWednesday. The MSEB complaint centre at Swargate received 48 complaints on Tuesday and 61 on Wednesday.
The complaint centre at Aundh received 22 complaints on Tuesday and 46 on Wednesday while that in Dattawadi area dealt with 26 complaints on Tuesday and 21 on Wednesday. In Khadki, 20 complaints were reported on Tuesday and 26 on Wednesday.
