Thiruvananthapuram, July 9: Chief Minister E K Nayanar has warned that Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal's threat to `liberate' Sivagiri mutt is part of a national-level BJP-RSS-VHP conspiracy to convert it into their seat of power. In his reaction to the VHP central advisory committee decision in Delhi to set up a dharma council for Sivagiri, Nayanar said the Government would strongly deal with any move to spread communal passion and challenge the rule of law in the state.
Terming the VHP move as a challenge to law and order, Nayanar said the VHP arrogance would not succeed in an enlightened place like Kerala. The Government would hand over the mutt to elected office-bearers of sanyasis at the earliest. A vote list was ready.
``However, the VHP announcement in this context was aimed at averting democratic elections to the mutt. It feared that a duly-elected mutt committee would avert its bid to capture it. Hence, the move to derail elections.''
Nayanar said that it was left to followers ofSree Narayana Guru to decide who should govern the mutt and not VHP. The stand that it would recognise only Swami Prakasananda and followers was an affront to Guru's followers.Nayanar said VHP would not be able to repeat a Babri Masjid in Kerala.
After pulling down the masjid, flouting assurances given to Parliament, VHP evolved a plan to create communal tensions, around mosques in different parts of the country. Those who had dragged in Mathura and Kasi were now trying to derail Sivagiri. ``The mutt is in the name of Sree Narayana Guru who fought against casteism and religious fanaticism. What right has VHP, which is bent on bringing back the decadent Chathur Varna, to speak about the hallowed seat of the Guru? VHP is a revivalist movement which views the Manusmriti as the social code,'' Nayanar said.
Referring to Singhal's calling Government Chief whip T K Hamza a `political beast' for his reference to Mata Amrithanandamayi, Nayanar said such comments only exposed the bestial culture of the former.
